Gregory of Rimini essays Gregory of Rimini was a man against the world. He kicked the pants off Mr. Peter Auriol , Venerable Inceptor and Aristotle. He then proceeded to wash them clean of their crazy Pelagian ideas and hung them up to dry. He did this with the influence of St. Augustine and the twist of his own lemony flavor. His writings were extremely clear for that time in history and amazingly profound that is why he is such an important character in the Protestant Reformation. Because Gregorys writings are so vast I want to focus on only a few, such as the foreknowledge of God and contingency of the world, predestination, and cognition. Gregorys arguments on Foreknowledge and Contingency was directed mostly to Peter Auriol and then to Oxford theologians. The argument of foreknowledge, in order for Auriol to preserve the contingency of consequences due to human free will, he declared that the future contingencies are neither true nor false, but neutral. Hence God does not know if (insert your name) will pass because (insert your name) will pass is neither true nor false. Auriol contradicts himself by say that God does know the future but how he knows is too complex for humans to understand. Gregory noticed that most of Auriol theory came from Aristotles theory of future contingencies. [This] is apparently a friendly excuse, but in the truth it is more of an accusation, because the fact that absurdities ensue [from this position] does not convince us that [Aristotle] did not think that, but convinces us that he ought not to have thought that... Moreover, some modern theologians [i.e. Auriol], great teachers, said that the conclusion [denying determinate truth to future contingent propositions] not only was the Philosophers intention, but also that it is very true and even demonstrated... Auriol was correct that the Principle of Bivalence when related to the future contingencies was denied by Aristotl...

GRRRLZ - Essay Example The first performance, which was silent, represented the daily morning routine of the girls. It was the most successful scene in my opinion because all actors were together on the stage and each was focusing solely on the acting without paying any attention to the audience. Each actor had their own performance which they focused on. This ensured that the fourth wall between the characters and the audience remained intact. On the other hand, the most unsuccessful part of the performance in my opinion was scene #21, Las Hermanas. There were a lot of chatting at the beginning of this performance and I felt slightly bored by the long lines that the actors read. I think One of the major reasons why I felt bored was because the rest of the performances were short and had music, sound effects and dancing to complement them, whereas this performance was not only long, but merely featured actors reading their lines. I think that the actors worked well together, the performances were fluid, and the monologues and dancing were performed superbly. For example, performance #10, Ode to Daffiness, had the actors dancing and performing in sync. The singing and dancing were completely in sync with the music and were executed beautifully. All the actors were well casted and were perfect for their roles, however, I liked one actor in all her performances: the actress who played Natalie. I thought she acted, danced and sang superbly. What is more, she was very versatile: in performance #4, GodÃ¢â¬â¢s Girls, she was acting the part of a young girl with another actor playing her sister. They were talking about lying and faith. Natalie was perfect in her portrayal of a young girl. Her way of talking with her sister as a child was very well acted. She even changed her voice during the performance, along with shouting and jumping around like a child. The actors changed their characters between each performance smoothly. The role of accounting profession in the development and the regulati on of capital markets can be understood only by referring primarily to the characteristics of accounting profession, as they can be made clear through appropriate theories. According to MacIntosh and Hopper (2005, p.263) Ã¢â¬Ëthe sociology of professions literature emphasizes on the social structure on which each profession is basedÃ¢â¬â¢; at the next level, the particular social structure can be used both for promoting the profession involved and for addressing the needs of the public (MacIntosh and Hopper 2005, p.263). From another point of view, Jeffrey (2010) notes that the accounting profession is more related to the virtue theory. The above theory emphasizes on the value of professional judgment, which is depended on Ã¢â¬Ëthe efforts of the individual to develop good habits, such as wisdom, courage and justiceÃ¢â¬â¢ (Jeffrey 2010, p.115). In practice, it seems that both these theories can be valuable in the development of accounting profession, promoting the relationsh ip of this profession with the interests of the public, as these are best served with the individual involved has highly developed specific characteristics, such as wisdom and justice (Jeffrey 2010, p.115). At the next level, the relationship between the accounting profession and the development of capital markets should be investigated. The involvement of the accounting profession in capital markets worldwide can be characterized as intensive. This trend is made clear in the following case: accountants in USA, in UK and in Canada have made strong efforts for Ã¢â¬Ëdeveloping the objectives of financial statementsÃ¢â¬â¢ (Riahi-Belkaoui 2004, p.164). More specifically, in UK, the Corporate Report, published by the Institute of Chartered Accountants, emphasized on the value of these objectives for ensuring ethical conduct in business transactions (Riahi-Belkaoui 2004, p.164). Kisielnicki Ã¢â¬â Hubler (2008) also notes that the value of accounting profession in setting ethical st andards in financial reporting is critical; he also explains that the involvement of accounting profession in the development of capital markets is likely to be indirect, through promoting standards, ethics and rules of conduct (Kisielnicki Ã¢â¬â Hubler 2008). History Today Essay History Today is actually a magazine, and historytoday. com is its website. The purpose of the website is to target the global audience and to publicize or introduce the magazine to them. 5. Yes, i believe the website is easy to read, with appropriate ads spaced on the sides, the layout is professional and pages are easy to follow, with drop down menus popping out when the cursor is moved to the various sections of the website which also makes it easier to navigate through different pages. The links are all up and running as they should. 6. Even though the website has the names of all the production team and editorial advisory board listed, no email addresses or contact numbers are given on the website. 7. The website i believe is current, however, this particular article i am looking into was published in 2007. 1. The website provides access to some of the articles that were initially published in the magazine. Data sources would mainly include both primary and secondary sources of information, as well as independent interpretations of historical events or personalities. Eventhough the website doesnÃ¢â¬â¢t include visual images, the actual magazine Ã¢â¬ËHistory TodayÃ¢â¬â¢ does. 2. Yes i believe the website is objective and free from any bias, as the page i happened to run into mentions both sides of the arguments. For example, the brief literature part of the original article says that yet, it is also necessary to explore the self-destructive qualities of NapoleonÃ¢â¬â¢s character. 3. NOTE: I dont know anything about your textbook, so i cannot answer this Question 4. Eventhough, the site only contained a small extract of the real article, it is useful for people who are looking towards finding a small hint on a topic related to history. The ancient Greek and ancient Roman religion was the belief in gods. They had similar beliefs, but also immeasurable differences. It was composed of many meaningful gods and goddesses that all played a part in the everyday life of the average Roman and Greek person of that time. They believed in something called polytheism. It is the belief of many gods, each given a personality and purpose. And was the subject of many myths and legends that would be told for many generations to come. They were to become the basis for a religion that would last for hundreds of years and would yield thousands of followers to believe in the made stories of these enchanted people or gods as they were called. The Roman mythology was to consist of twelve to thirteen main gods. Each having a function in the life of the everyday Roman, that would require some sort of worshipping. The Roman gods were taken from the beliefs of the Greek gods. They are directly descended from their neighboring religion. The Roman mythology consisted of the high god Jupiter, his wife and sister Juno, son Vulcan, son Mercury, daughter Diana, daughter Venus, son Mars, daughter Minerva, son Apollo, sister Vesta, brother Pluto, brother Neptune, and Janus.(Classical Mythology) Jupiter was the ruler of the gods. He is also known as Zeus to the Greeks. The King of Gods in Greek Mythology Zeus was the ruler of the sky, and had the power to create thunderstorms and lightning as well as earthquakes. He was the child of Cronus and Rhea. As the story goes he was their sixth child, and the father to protect him from being overthrown had eaten the five previous children. Zeus was taken to a city called Crete and hidden from his father. As Zeus grew older and learned of what happened he found a potion to make his father regurgitate the other children. Once this happened they all teamed up and killed their father. Zeus then became the ruler of Mount Olympus, and head of the new line of Gods. Jupiter was the predominant power holder of Roman Gods. Education is one of the most important parts of our life. Therefore all teachers should try to be a Ã¢â¬Å"good teacherÃ¢â¬ . The teacher is to help your personality and learning. First, a good teacher is not boring. A good teacher must have Ã¢â¬Å"knowledgeÃ¢â¬ of his/her subject matter. A good teacher should know how to explain the content in easier way that he is teaching. Being a good teacher is to understand the student. In addition, a good teacher should be able to understand that it is important to teach in simple steps so that all students in the class can understand the lesson. The Ã¢â¬Å"good teacherÃ¢â¬ works with students. A friend of mine told me her math teacher tolerates only students who are good at mathematics or those who have special interest in the subject. Towards the rest of the class my friend says sheÃ¢â¬â¢s very exacting. She gives homework and tests without bothering to ask about difficulties. She doesnÃ¢â¬â¢t try to explain it and as a result many students keep getting bad marks. I family believe teacher shouldnÃ¢â¬â¢t forget that all students no matter of their color, race or gender have equal ability to study. Different students have different learning system. Some can learn things easily while others need to spend more time over a given task. ThatÃ¢â¬â¢s why it is advisable for a teacher to know his students individually so that he can remember what kind of problems they have and find the right way to help them. Before entering in a classroom, a Ã¢â¬Å"good teacherÃ¢â¬ should be highly knowledgeable of the subject area they will be teaching and have a clear understanding of how to organize the curriculum in order to meet the need of the students and the objectives of the school. The interview highlighted that Teacher X is one of the chief writers of the curriculum for the examination body of her institution. It will be ones belief that a personnel would not have been bestowed such privilege if she was not competent in her subject area. She also outlined that her learning objectives are based on the knowledge, ability and skill of the students. This further exemplifies her since Darlington-Hammond and Baratz-Snowden (2005) states that based on the learning needs of their students, teachers must make a wide variety of curriculum decisions, ranging from the evaluation and selection of materials to the design and sequencing of tasks, assignments and activities to the assessment of learning to guide further teaching. The development of the curriculum in light of the studentsÃ¢â¬â¢ interest fosters intrinsic motivation and stimulates the studentsÃ¢â¬â¢ passion for learning a specific subject area. If given the opportunity for input, studentsÃ¢â¬â¢ will generate ideas and set goals that even the teacher had not thought of. At this point teachers should embrace the fact that they do not know everything and should be willing to learn from their studentsÃ¢â¬â¢ in the process. A Ã¢â¬Å"good teacherÃ¢â¬ must take the time to know her students. Know not only their names or facial representations, but their readiness level, learning styles and interest. Students are all individuals who learn at different rates and in different ways. Tomlinson (2001) outlines that students learn better if tasks are a close match for their skills and understanding of a topic (readiness), if tasks ignite curiosity or passion in a student (interest) and if the assignment encourages students to work in a preferred manner (learning style). The classrooms of our society can be extremely diverse, so teachers must be able to differentiate intrsuctions to meet the individual needs of each student.

Alenoush Karimian SOC 2: Winter 2017 The Influence of Three Weak Ties Social networks can be reconstructed with the introduction or reduction of nodes that make up social ties. The nodes represent the individuals in that network and the ties are the connection between the nodes that vary depending on the individual s social network (Christakis and Fowler: 2011). This diversity in social networks has the potential for changing the path of someoneÃ¢â¬â¢s life course. For me this occurred during the time I was in high school. My mom became disabled when she injured her back at work. Her injury made walking difficult and painful, therefore forcing her to leave her jobÃ¢â¬ ¦show more contentÃ¢â¬ ¦GYA is a non-profit organization that helps and aids low-income families. One way they do this is through their job placement program where they find low-income high schools jobs for the summer. This is in the hopes that in the long run they will be permanently hired in their assigned summer position. During my experience in volunteering for two summers I met K , the head coordinator for this summer program and the first weak tie in my social network. Since I had known K through volunteering, I reached out to her about my situation. Once she heard about what my family was going through K utilized her social capital to quickly get my younger sister and me a job. I was grateful that it was during the summer that we received the eviction notice since GYA only places teens in jobs during the summer. However, K found a position for me at a coffee shop that extended until the end of Fall. In addition, to her asking for funds to keep me working, she provided gift cards that ranged from $100-150 every month for groceries and toiletries for my family. With the help of K my sister and I had temporarily been hired at the location she placed us in that worked with our school schedules. My family and I benefited tremendously from K because she had social capital that my strong ties did not.
